Do we really need a lighthouse?

Can you imagine anyone seeing this scene who would ask that question?

This is Crescent City, the town that has been hit by more tsunamis than any other on the US mainland…as recently as 2011, by waves generated by the Japan earthquake.

It’s actually the offshore geography of the area that makes it unusually susceptible to tsunamis.

But its that same geography that creates the nearly constant barrage of waves that you see here.

On the other side of Battery Point Lighthouse in this picture is a clear channel that allows boats to enter the city’s harbor.DSC_9821
