It’s a dirty job, but….

….somebody’s got to explore this Oregon coast.

We’ve been exploring the California North Coast for ages, it seems, but we thought you’d like to give it a rest….

We’re parked near the coast, due west from Portland.

The other morning, we drove 30 miles south to a lovely little town called Pacific City. Kind of a foggy, grey day, about 60 degrees.

Arrived to find this huge rock just offshore!

DSC_5185Click on it to make it fill your screen, and you’ll find some tiny surfers low to the left…that’s how big the rock is!

Poor day to explore in more detail…will be back.

Headed north to Astoria…where the Columbia River empties into the Pacific. It’s a big deal….

We crossed over to Washington on a bridge that took forever and gave us wondrous views! This was our initial contact, so we didn’t spend much time with details. Wound our way through Cape Disappointment State Park…and caught a fun picture past the Cape D lighthouse back toward the mouth of the river.

DSC_5364Headed back south. Stopped at Cannon Beach. Hoo boy, we’re gonna spend more time in this place!

This picture from Ecola State Park provides a sweeping view of the town’s shoreline, including its massive Haystack Rock, waaay in the background.

DSC_5213Ended our day with a sweet sky as a backdrop for an offshore lighthouse north of town.
