Whoa, corporate responsibility

We passed a Daimler Truck plant north of Charlotte, NC today. Out front was this large “stand” of photovoltaic panels, which was somewhat minimized by the heavy chain link fence in front of it.

Even a field of panels this large probably produces only a very small percentage of the plant’s electrical needs. You can see that the sign announces it produces electricity for 50 homes, but that must be minimal when compared to its total use.

Still, it’s totally clean, produces zero risk to the neighbors, and has only a modest effect on the visual landscape (nil when placed in the typical position on a roof). It’s a good start.
