Michigan state parks are really something!

These guys know how to make it nice, and they do it everywhere! Here we are over near Detroit, and there are three state recreation areas within 20 miles; one is the largest in the lower peninsula. Not fancy, no water and sewer at every site, most sites are grass or gravel but some sections certainly cater to the larger trailers and motorhomes by having all paved sites and 50-amp electric service.

State residents can have an annual pass for all parks by paying $10 when they renew their license plates!

Large parks that emphasize the natural goodness of the land, and buildings and roads that provide good, basic amenities without glitz. Ha, no trash cans! Campgrounds have dumpsters off to the side of the entrance.

What a lovely way to spend Sabbath! We’ll spend two nights at this site, then move to another campground in the same huge recreation area (Waterloo; 20,000 acres), and later next week stay in other parks even closer to Detroit; maybe run down to Maumee Bay State Park in Ohio for a quick comparison! Keep track of us in the Here we are! section of the blog.

Pictures tomorrow.

  1. We love to be connected and we read everything you post. Yes, we love Michigan
as you know. Hope all are well. You missed the tennis ball size hail that we got
on Hideaway Lane. Lots of damage to cars and roofs. We were spared damage.
We have the hail in our freezer, six large balls of ice. The back of Margaret M.
house got hit pretty bad, she was in Texas. Keep in touch. Happy Sabbath.
    Love and Prayers, Nancy

  2. I have been to Maumee Bay. It is very nice. Good golf, pools, walking areas and the resort has great rooms that overlook the lake.
